The Maine Historic Preservation Committee is the historic preservation office for the State of Maine. Its responsibilities include nominating properties to the National Register of Historic Places, reviewing the effects of federal undertakings on historic properties, overseeing the identification and evaluation of archaeological sites as well as historic buildings, objects and districts, and promoting historic preservation through planning and public education.
The Maine Historic Preservation Committee was formed in 1971. It is an independent agency within the Maine State Executive branch and is a member of the Maine Cultural Affairs Council.
